Child Support

Child support is a reality that all parents must deal with. A parent may not waive child support because under Maryland law child support is the child’s right and not the right of the parent. An order of child support does not suggest that the parent is or has been negligent or irresponsible in any way.

Rather, it is merely the court’s method of providing sufficient support for the child. Many factors can affect child support. Among the factors are the amount of time the child spends with each parent, both parent’s income, the cost of health insurance for the child, the cost of work-related day care, and whether there is a pre-existing child support order in effect for other children.
